The Village of Haverstraw is celebrating 410 years since its first appearance in the Dutch historical record as “Haverstroo.” During the weekend of June 20, 2026, the Haverstraw Brick Museum will mark the 250th anniversary of the United States with a new exhibition entitled, “Haverstraw & The American Revolution,” exploring the under-documented and largely untold stories of New York’s origins, America’s fight for independence, and the rise of Haverstraw’s 130-year-old brick industry. The exhibition also traces the growth of the Industrial Age and Haverstraw’s role in building the infrastructure of one of the greatest cities in the world, New York.  CLICK HERE for more information. Don’t miss “The Landscape Design of Mary Mowbray-Clarke.” The Haverstraw Brick Museum’s latest exhibition highlights the life of Rockland’s very own Mary Mowbray-Clarke. A pioneer in every sense of the word, Mary’s story and contributions to the fields of perseveration, art education, and landscape architecture continue to have a lasting impact today. As the mother of the Modern Arts Movement, her career culminated in her magnum opus: The Dutch Gardens. Rhino Improv Level 2 Led by veteran acting teacher Maria Vail, this class reinforces the skills learned in Level 1 and builds upon them. This class explores characters, genres, emotional choices and scene structure. Improvisors who completed Rhino Level 1 are welcome to sign up. Improvisors with past experience from other training are also welcome. Through a series of interactive exercises and games, you'll learn the fundamental techniques of improvisation, such as scene building, character development and quick thinking. Kids Improv Workshop August 17–21 | 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM Rhino Comedy’s Kids Improv Workshop is a week-long program led by experienced educators and professional improvisers. Through play-based activities, kids will learn the fundamentals of improv comedy while building skills in listening, collaboration, and storytelling. Whether your child is brand new to the stage or already loves to perform, this workshop meets them where they are and gives them space to shine. The workshop provides a supportive, low-pressure environment where students can explore their creativity, gain confidence, and express themselves. Improv naturally encourages empathy, confidence, and resilience, helping kids feel more comfortable expressing themselves and connecting with others. Explore the process of painting still life and landscape paintings! You will be amazed how quickly your style and artistic ability develop by using easy and intuitive painting techniques. You will learn how to create a form with line and shadow, and investigate composition and space. Each class will include a demonstration and a look at drawings in history. In this class, we will learn how to paint a portrait in oils from a reference photo. Starting with the initial sketch we will learn how to break down the face into patterns and shapes in order to see that areas of light and dark that create form. In this first step we will see how we can paint with pencil using the same principals that we will then bring in with paint. The underpainting is a scaffold upon which we will lay our colors. The underpainting creates a visual structure and another layer from which we can get to know the subject. We will learn how to create an underpainting using one color to create darks and lights as our foundation. In the final stages we will be adding paint. We will learn how to mix colors ahead of time to use for our flesh tones. The world of color is fascinating and there is so much to explore. We will discuss how to apply color and to see them for what they are and how to create a dynamic, life-like feeling. A list of all materials will be sent upon registration. The Kearsing & Edwards American Legion Post 1600 is a veterans service organization based in Pomona, serving the central Rockland County area. The John M. Perry American Legion Post 1044 is a Sparkill-based veterans service organization that supports Rockland County veterans, active-duty service members, and their families. Like other American Legion posts, it focuses on veteran advocacy, camaraderie, and community service — taking part in Memorial Day and Veterans Day observances, supporting youth and scholarship programs, and hosting fellowship gatherings for members.
