Terms of Service
Last updated August 27, 2026
Welcome to Rockland Connected, a community directory and newsletter for Rockland County, NY. By using the site, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
What we provide
Rockland Connected publishes directories of local businesses, events, classes, clubs, and community resources, plus editorial content and a newsletter. Listings are gathered from public sources and from community submissions. We work to keep them accurate, but hours, prices, schedules, and availability change — always confirm details with the business or organizer before making a trip.
Accounts and listings
- You're responsible for the content you submit and for keeping your account credentials secure.
- By submitting a listing, you confirm you have the right to share its content (including photos) and you grant us permission to display it on the site and feature it in the newsletter and social channels.
- Listings must be local, lawful, and honest. We may edit, decline, or remove any listing at our discretion — for example spam, misrepresentation, or content that doesn't serve the community.
- If you own a business listed here and want your listing updated or removed, contact us and we'll take care of it.
Acceptable use
Don't misuse the site: no scraping at scale, no attempts to break or overload it, no impersonating others, no posting unlawful, harassing, or deceptive content, and no using contact details from listings for unsolicited marketing.
Groups and conversations
- Local groups are open community spaces. Your membership and anything you post there may be visible to anyone visiting the site.
- Keep group names and posts relevant, lawful, and neighborly. Harassment, hate, threats, doxxing, impersonation, spam, and unsafe or deceptive content are not allowed.
- You keep ownership of what you post and give us permission to display, format, and moderate it as needed to operate the service.
- We may hide or remove posts, suspend groups or accounts, and preserve records needed to review abuse reports or meet legal obligations.
Content and ownership
The site's editorial content, design, and branding belong to Rockland Connected. Content you submit stays yours — you just give us the license described above to display it. Third-party names, logos, and photos belong to their owners.
Community sports
- Accounts that create teams, accept invitations, arrange games, or publish results must be operated by someone age 13 or older.
- Team rosters are invitation-based. Do not add or impersonate another player without their acceptance.
- Every listed player and opponent must use a registered account. Team results and game books may be submitted or edited only by an owner or approved manager. The other team's managers may be notified when a game book changes.
- Team profiles, accepted rosters, challenge matchups, accepted game dates and times, scores, recaps, statistics, and optional locations are public. If you enter a venue or address and acknowledge it as public, it may appear on game pages and the public calendar. Never publish a minor's home address, school schedule, private contact details, or other sensitive information.
- Community-submitted results and self-reported performances are not official or independently verified. Managers are responsible for resolving score or statistic disagreements with one another. We may preserve the information recorded at the time, label or archive it, or remove content when needed to operate the service.
- Highlights, full-game videos, titles, descriptions, comments, mentions, nominations, and votes are public. Upload or link only material you have the right and permission to share, including permission from people shown in it. Do not post illegal, dangerous, harassing, infringing, or privacy-invasive content.
- Play of the Week is a community feature, not a judged athletic award. Eligibility windows, finalist counts, randomized ballot order, one-account voting limits, ties, badges, and email timing may be enforced automatically. Removing a winning video also removes its badge.
- Users are responsible for appropriate supervision, safe facilities, equipment, and verifying who they meet. Rockland Connected does not organize, officiate, insure, or guarantee community games unless explicitly stated.
- Private contact limits apply in both directions: an account age 18 or older cannot privately contact an account under 16, and an account age 21 or older cannot privately contact an account under 18. These limits include direct messages, roster invitations, linked-opponent requests, targeted private notifications, and other private application or response tools.
- Age-based contact restrictions, moderation decisions, and account limits are mandatory and may not be bypassed. We may remove comments, videos, teams, games, or accounts to protect the service or comply with law.
Copyright and content rights
- You keep ownership of original content you submit.
- By submitting content, you give Rockland Connected a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, reproduce, format, display, distribute, and promote it through the site, newsletter, and Rockland Connected social channels for as long as the content remains submitted.
- You confirm that you own the content or have permission to use it, including permission from identifiable people and rights to music, photos, video, logos, and written material.
- Rockland Connected's name, branding, site design, original editorial work, and software may not be copied or commercially reused without permission.
Copyright complaints
If you believe content on the site infringes your copyright, send a notice through our contact page identifying the work, the exact page or material, your contact information, a good-faith statement that the use is unauthorized, and a statement that the information in your notice is accurate. We may remove or restrict disputed material while reviewing a complete notice and may terminate repeat infringers.
Disclaimers
The site is provided "as is." We make no warranties about the accuracy or completeness of listings or editorial content, and we aren't responsible for the businesses, events, or organizations listed — your dealings with them are between you and them. To the fullest extent allowed by law, our liability arising from your use of the site is limited.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally will be handled in a court with jurisdiction in New York, unless applicable law requires otherwise.
