Source
The source is Rockland Connected's own public business-directory inventory. This is not government, tax, licensing, employment, revenue, or economic census data.
Included records
We include directory records with a public URL. Records reported as permanently closed are excluded; listings with an unknown or temporary status may remain visible.
Locality counting
Each listing is counted once overall and once under its stored locality label. Those source labels are not silently converted into municipalities, so broader service-area or unmatched labels can appear in the table. Listings without a locality remain in the overall total but do not appear there.
Category counting
Each distinct category is counted once per listing. Because one listing may have multiple categories, category shares overlap and can total more than 100%. Blank category labels are omitted.
Updates and ranking
The report is generated from the current directory and refreshes as records change. Tables rank by listing count, then alphabetically when counts tie.
Download contents
The CSV and JSON files contain the same aggregate town, category, and summary figures with snapshot metadata. They do not expose raw listing records or contact details.
What this report does not show
The report cannot establish the total number of businesses in Rockland County, economic output, popularity, quality, business health, or demand. Differences can reflect directory participation and data completeness.
