There are county parks that get the marketing treatment — trailhead signs, parking lots full by 9 a.m. on a Saturday, the whole thing — and then there are places like Demarest Kill County Park in New City, which quietly goes about its business along New Hempstead Road without making much of a fuss about itself.

The park follows the Demarest Kill, a small stream that gives the place its name and its best feature. Getting down to the water is the kind of thing kids figure out immediately and adults remember to appreciate a few minutes later.
