The story begins well before the storefront. Vilma Lopez learned to bake alongside her grandmother, Lucia Reynoso, in Tamboril in the Dominican Republic. In his March 2025 SAVEUR profile, Mike Diago traced that training from childhood cake decorating to an apprenticeship in Santiago at 14. It is a useful detail: the family tradition was also a craft that took practice.

After moving to Haverstraw in 2000, Vilma sold cakes from home. The family opened the bakery in March 2011, according to its own history. The business identifies itself as family-owned and operated, with Vilma and Raymundo Lopez’s children Judith, Gina and Ray participating. What began with one grandmother’s knowledge has become work shared across generations.

The choices on the current flavor list show how that foundation leaves space for individual taste.
