Teaching in the New Crazy: On Thriving in an Overwhelming, Politicized, and Complicated World

Join us for a joyful weekly singing experience designed especially for older adults aging in place in Rockland County. We welcome seniors of all abilities — including those living with dementia, Parkinson’s, or other health challenges — in a warm, inclusive, pay-what-you-can setting. Thursdays September 17 through November 19

​Please join the Lower Hudson Valley Democratic Socialists Of America’s International Commission for a screening of the documentary “The Forgotten Occupation”. We will be joined by the director of the documentary, Alain Martin, for a Q&A and discussion segment at the end of the screening! The documentary revisits the U.S. occupation of Haiti through a letter to Alain’s grandfather and unravels the paradox of a man who longed for American rule and a nation scarred by it. Blending intimate memory with sweeping history, the film confronts exile, love, and the uneasy truths at the heart of freedom. Proceeds from ticket sales will go directly to an organization supporting our local Haitian immigrant communities, which has recently come under increased threat with the Supreme Court’s ruling on Temporary Protected Status (TPS). The price of admission for the event is a *suggested donation* amount of $15. As long as there is space at the event, nobody will be turned away due to lack of funds.

Geoff will host movies, pausing along the way to appreciate and discuss the audacity of cinema when it fires on all cylinders (engaging story-world, irony, metaphor, ideas and craft). David Lynch’s Blue Velvet (1986) rated R – 2hr College student Jeffrey Beaumont (Kyle MacLachlan) returns home after his father has a stroke. When he discovers a severed ear in an abandoned field, Beaumont teams up with detective’s daughter Sandy Williams (Laura Dern) to solve the mystery.
