Why I'm building Rockland Connected

The founding essay: what a county-sized platform is for.

Rockland is small enough that you recognize faces at the deli, and big enough that you can live here for a decade and never hear about the pickup basketball run two towns over, the ceramicist selling out of her garage in Blauvelt, or the trail crew that fixed the washout on Long Path. That gap is the whole project. The county does not have a discovery problem; it has a connection problem. The people, businesses, teams, and events are all here. What is missing is the connective tissue: one place where a new family in Pearl River, a shop owner in Spring Valley, and a coach in Haverstraw are all looking at the same map of local life. So Rockland Connected is built as infrastructure, not media. Directories that stay accurate. Player cards and stat sheets that make weekend games feel official. Creative profiles that give artists a wall to hang work on. A newsletter that reads like a neighbor wrote it, because one did. The bet is simple: if you make the county legible, people use more of it. And a county that uses more of itself is a better place to live.
