Ed “Spice” Lucuara on Making Music and Building Community

Ed Lucuara’s nickname started with a high-school conversation about DJing. By college, ‘Spice’ had taken on another meaning: people were asking him to bring something of his own to their mixes and music.

During our visit to Mic Vision Studios in Garnerville, the producer and engineer behind Spice Productions Music explains how a name that stuck with his friends came to represent what he contributes to a song.

He’s still thinking about how to get better. For Ed, improving as an engineer and producer means practicing, making more music and collaborating with other people. The repetition matters, and so does the chance to learn alongside someone else.

That idea extends to the local music community. Ed wants more opportunities for Rockland’s musicians and creatives to meet, share resources and support one another. He sees value in bringing people into the same room and helping them see what others are contributing.
